The situation in Afghanistan is a complete and utter disaster that can be placed at the feet of one man. Joe Biden caused the catastrophe in Afghanistan to say he ended the “Endless War”. But was it still a war? No, the 2,500 American troops in Afghanistan hardly counted the operation as a war. For a quick comparison, the U.S. has almost 54,000 soldiers in Japan and over 35,000 deployed in Germany. So, the 2,500 number in Afghanistan is not particularly taxing for the U.S. especially because there have been minimal casualties, averaging between ten and twenty a year, over the past seven years.
The best strategic decision would have been to remain in Afghanistan to stabilize the country, fight terrorism, and protect American interests in the Middle East. Instead, Biden decided to leave the country and because of that, chaos ensued. The Taliban retook the majority of the country within a matter of days and they are now in control of U.S. weapons worth billions of dollars. On top of that, they are restricting many Americans and U.S. allies from access to the Kabul airport, where much of the evacuation is taking place, and even beating some in the streets. The Biden Administration is now at the full mercy of a terrorist group to allow American citizens to leave the country.
Even further, women’s rights are not respected by the Taliban. Women are bound by strict Sharia law, are required to cover their heads in public, and have become second class citizens. That is not even the worst of it! Members of the Taliban have been brutally beating and raping women and even young girls to such an extent that the Taliban leadership has released a statement encouraging women to stay home so they remain safe. It does not take a genius to figure out that the U.S. pulling out of Afghanistan was tragic to women’s rights and safety.
The crisis in Afghanistan is a humiliating embarrassment to a nation possessing the world’s most powerful military and should have never been allowed to happen. Joe Biden and his administration should be ashamed of this horrendous decision to pull out of Afghanistan in this manner. American voters should take note of the horrifying crisis in Afghanistan for both the 2022 midterms and the 2024 presidential election.
